Growing up in Indiana, I developed an interest in photography at an early age. In high school I took every course available to me, and my camera soon became the tool I used to express myself. After graduation I traveled west and continued to study photography at the Colorado Institute of Art in Denver, and later attended courses at the Spokane Art School in Spokane Washington, and the Rocky Mountain School of Photography in Missoula, Montana.

As a freelance photographer, living in North Idaho, my work is varied and diverse. From wedding and portrait, to fine art, travel, commercial and commissioned images, I cover a wide range of subjects.

I believe in staying fresh by learning new techniques, constantly improving my skills and keeping up with the current trends in the market. I strive to engage my viewer by capturing true emotion and using unique perspectives.

I have shown my work in galleries, have participated in numerous art exhibits, and many of my fine art images have been purchased for private collections. I have also been published in various magazines, books, and calendars, and have taught photography classes privately, and at a local arts center.

I try to live life to the fullest, and I love the outdoors. Some of the things I enjoy when I’m not shooting (although most times my camera goes where I go) are, rock climbing, and hiking, mountain biking, camping, snowboarding, and gardening. I also volunteer locally with our community garden project and the soup kitchen, and have volunteered abroad teaching photography to school children and working in an animal shelter in S.E. Asia. I truly believe in the words of Winston Churchill, “We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give”. I feel that my passion for living reflects in my photography, and my ability to share inspiring images with others brings me genuine joy. My biggest reward has always been when someone cherishes a photograph that I have taken. I am so fortunate to be one of those lucky people who love what I do, and do what I love!

I am available to travel for freelance work covering a broad range of interests and photographic subjects. For information on purchasing photographs on this site or from my broader portfolio, please feel free to contact me at (208) 255-9062 or by email at marshalutz@hotmail.com
